An Outer Banks Fishing Charter Experience

I've always thought the fishing industry needs more captains that are out there to just have a good time... Bring the kids, the family, the guys, & let's have ourself a day on the water chasin some fillets!

The memories created are more important than the fillets on the grill.

We are out here to have some fun... more importantly to catch some fish. Bottom fishin' for the tastiest of treats to hearin' a marlin peel the drag from the reel

Capt. John Abel of C-Legs Sportfishing

Capt. John Abel of C-Legs Sportfishing

Captain John Abel is USCG licensed with over 32 years charter experience and has adventurously fished from the African Coast to the various Alaskan seas, and just about every lake, river and ocean in between. He started deck-handing out on Lakes Erie and Ontario at the age of 9 with his father, learning to charter everything from walleye and yellow perch on Lake Erie to Kings, Steelhead and Coho’s on Lake Ontario. Joining the Coast Guard out of high school and expanding his knowledge, he began fishing commercially on the Chesapeake Bay and deck-handing out of Virginia Beach. During this time, he also took the opportunity to spend 5 months off the coast of Africa catching Marlin, Tuna and everything else the sea is home to. This vast experience allowed him to fish various places and learn techniques, tips and tricks to put him on the fast track to being one of the best. He ventured out on his own in 2013 building a reputation as one of the best captains on Kodiak Island. After 7 solid seasons chasing massive halibut, salmon and lingcod the opportunity came to move back to the East Coast and fulfill a burning desire to run with the best and return to chasing the monsters of the deep blue, and there’s nowhere better than Oregon Inlet. He eats, sleeps, and breathes fishing and has a “knack” for finding fish when no one else can. His “Old Man” jokes that he created a monster and you won’t meet anyone who disagrees.

The Guarantee…

This is it, what do I guarantee you? I guarantee you I’ll do everything I can to make sure your day on the water is a SAFE and ENJOYABLE experience. Mother Nature can be a fickle lady, sometimes she will make you work her with every trick in the book before she gives it up.

C-Legs Sportfishing:

Operating out of Wanchese North Carolina, C-Legs is a short run to Oregon Inlet, the opening to one of, if not the most bad@$$ fishing gateway in North America. From there it’s a short run to the most awesome offshore fishing grounds in the country. No where else can you access the number of pelagic species we have here at these short runs, year-round. Oregon Inlet is home to the most productive Yellowfin fishery in the country, year-round, add to that the seasons for Giant Bluefin Tuna, Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Sailfish and you have a recipe that no other port in the country can compete with. Nearshore fishing is incredible, monster red drum, cobia, flounder, speckled trout, here we have it all, there’s just too many to county or list here for the nearshore game. While we love all of it, the offshore game is where we love to be, the excitement of never knowing exactly what will crash into the spread next, while we mainly target the meat species, will it be a 20lb yellowfin or a 200lb bigeye, there’s no telling.

Why did we choose a smaller boat than the norm? A more personal touch - we like to keep the crews smaller, 4 people or less, and running a smaller boat lets us keep the overhead down, which allows a smaller group of friends to make these amazing memories together.

On this Boat... We have a Helluva Time

A fishin dream. Beauty at it's finest. Some may call it "waking up in the morning with no regrets" when you go fishin with us. World-class Blue Marlin, Bluefin, and Yellowfin Tuna port, to nearshore Cobia, Amberjack, Kingfish, as well as Seabass and Redfish, there’s something for everyone.

I, Capt John, will have all the ins & outs ready for our trip. Shimano, Okuma, and Penn rods & reels, kitted out with electric reels for deep riggin & fishin.

Mornin' Glory

The Mornin’ Glory is a 28’ Carolina Classic built right here in Eastern N. Carolina. She is known for 2 things, a serious offshore sportfishing vessel with one HELLUVA ride, and a little something to keep mama happy. Her 16,000lb weight coupled with a 24-degree deadrise means she keeps that sexy bottom in the water, not bouncing off of it. How do we push that, with the most reliable name in the diesel market… CUMMINS. With twin 370hp Cummins diesels she sports a cruising speed of 28kts, making a short ride to even the offshore grounds. 2nd… Mac Privott didn’t forget to add a few comforts when he designed this boat. Heating/AC, fully electric head, fridge and microwave, as well as a little space down below to recuperate after fighting that monster. Mornin’ Glory is decked out with the latest in electronics, a full SIMRAD suite from 4G Radar down to Chirp sounders for finding those monsters that lurk in the deep. When it comes to gear, she is decked with the latest from Okuma, Penn and Shimano to handle anything from flounder and croaker to the big boys that haunt your dreams offshore and will test your metal.
